Oakland Rising PAID Census team now accepting applications!

Everyone is either unemployed or knows someone who is. So check out this job announcement and help us find the best canvass team ever! Please spread the word about this great job with Oakland Rising and Causa Justa:Just Cause over the next 6 weeks.
We'll be focusing on talking with undocumented, previously incarcerated people, and other "hard to count" residents in Oakland...to ensure our city gets all the federal funding we deserve, and that when political districts are re-drawn next year they're genuinely representative. Spread the word!

PAID CANVASSER JOB DESCRIPTION

Oakland Rising (OR) is a multilingual, multiracial alliance of social justice organizations that educates and mobilizes residents in lesser-heard communities to reclaim a powerful voice on the issues impacting their lives. Cause Justa :: Just Cause (CJJC) is a multi-racial, grassroots organization building community leadership to achieve justice for low-income Oakland and San Francisco residents.

OR and CJJC are currently seeking individuals who want to work in either of our paid canvass programs. Canvassers will be responsible for contacting thousands of Oakland residents by phone and/or door-to-door contact.

Canvassers will work 5 days a week on the following schedule:
Weds, March 10th thru Saturday, April 10th with the OR team
OR Hours: Monday, Weds, and Thursday 3:30-9pm (phone)
Tuesday 2:30-8pm (walk)
Saturday 10am-7:30pm (phone & walk)
or:

Weds, March 17th thru Sunday, April 18th with the CJJC team
CJJC Hours: Monday, Weds, and Thursday 2:30-8pm (walk)
Tuesday 3:45-9pm (phone)
Sunday 1-8:15pm (walk & phone)

Lunch or Dinner will be provided each workday. Pay is $12.50 per hour.

Requirements:
1. Dedication to social and economic justice and the improvement of the lives of community residents
2. Ability to persuade residents to complete their census forms
3. Ability to work 6-8 hours per day, five days a week
4. Physical ability to do lots of walking
5. Positive attitude
6. Basic computer skills required
7. Must be on time
8. Ability to fill out accurate daily reports
9. Ability to work well in a team-setting
10. Goal oriented
11. Previous campaign experience a plus
12. Car a definite plus.
13. Not required, but English-Spanish Bilingual a plus

About Esperanza Tervalon-Daumont
Esperanza Tervalon-Daumont is the executive director of Oakland Rising, a formation of six community-based organizations that have come together to build a progressive city -wide electoral base that forwards and agenda which addresses the needs and issues of low income communities of color in Oakland. Organizations that make up Oakland Rising have decided to step-up and take leadership to build and put in place the capacity needed to realize and sustain a long-term progressive vision for Oakland. Our current work focuses on three major goals through which we are developing critical and key pieces of infrastructure necessary to build progressive power in Oakland: 1. Build a permanent political/electoral infrastructure; 2. Exercise and expand political influence; and 3. Align organizations and coordinate with other progressive forces.
