Ashoka's Changemakers is a social venture program that is launching Youth Ventures, a venture program for youth--and one of their their first local programs is based here in Oakland, CA.

They are looking for volunteer mentors to work with one the local team-- specifically someone to work with a team of youth who want to produce a viral music video that will work to establish the role of MC's as legitimate researchers in addressing social justice issues in Oakland that are also connected to Global issues.

The responsibility is as follows:  The mentor will need to go through a (painless, but necessary) security check, and be available to meet on Saturdays from 10 AM-2 PM on Jan. 30th, Feb. 6th, Feb. 20th, and March 6th in Oakland.

The program will also have two dinners (from approximately 6 PM to 9 PM) on the following Friday evenings:  Jan. 29th (this upcoming Friday!) and March 5th.  Following those dates, we would ask the mentor to commit to a regular schedule of participation with the  team, which would require about 4 hours per month.

If you are interested in serving as a mentor, please identify yourself before this Fridays dinner by sending your resume or professional bio, along with a few words about why you'd like to support this next generation of young social entrepreneurs, to Amy Wilson at awilson@youthventure.org

If you're not interested in serving as a mentor, we hope you can join us at our first community panel where these teams will be presenting their venture ideas on March 6th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m..  Feel free to e-mail me if you’d like to know more.
