What if an earthquake hits? Do you know what to do?

With an 8.8 magnitude earthquake hitting Chile, and a tsunami-watch across the Pacific affecting 53 countries--it's hard not to worry that California will be affected--not only is there a tsunam watch in effect--but we have those little things know as faults running under our state, hey, practically running under our city.

So, if an earthquake hit--would you be prepared?  If you and your family and friends don't have an earthquake plan, this is a great time to make one. Some essentials:

Figure out how you could communicate and.or meet up if a quake hit when you were not at home

Make sure you have water--if infrastructure is disrupted, you are going to need it, along with food supplies.

Plan for pets: in rhe chaos of an earthquake, animals also suffer.

Decide if you need to head for a doorway--or try to get outside--or drop, cover and hold

Do you k now how to turn off the gas line? One of the big problems after a quake are fires that spring up from open gas lines--and houses that then burn.
