Thanks to our readers & community, Oakland Local has raised $3,200 of the $5,000 we're seeking to keep us publishing into 2011. We've gotten gifts ranging from $1,000 to $10 and we appreciate every one of them.  This money will go to providing quality daily coverage of what's happening in Oakland, from city government issues to social justice movements, with a focus on food justice, alternative transportation, housing & development, arts & culture and the numerous commnunities and groups that make Oakland so great.

Susan Mernit is the founder of Oakland Local. She is also a circuit rider for The Community Information Challenge, a program of The John S and James L Knight Foundation, and a consultant to non-profit and community organizations. Susan lives in North Oakland, near the Santa Fe school, with her partner, her housemate, a rescue dog named Cazzie, and a yard full of ants. She is an aspiring gardener, a long-time blogger & entrepreneur, and a recovering journalist who's found home in Oakland.
