This past Friday was another Art Murmur and after sitting meditation for a while at the East Bay Meditation Center, I walked over to check it out.
I'm not really an Art Murmur person, or I haven't much been in the past, but I've been talking with more of the artists in town, both about supporting the arts scene and supporting more diversity across the arts scenes, so it seemed like a good moment to go check things out.
The streets were packed and if you were looking for packs of coolly-dressed 20-something people with open cans and big glasses, it wasn't hard to see dozens. But there was so good stuff happening that was way better than the gleeful post college drinking - some real artisans and art.
There was a terrific electronic piece by Ethan Turpin at the Krowswork Gallery that had people so interested they couldn't break away from the installation, and another fascinating show by Eric Petitti at Johansson Projects. But what I really dug was the street of crafters, foodies and street artists that ran down one block and featured a woman making bike jackets, tons of T-shirt artists, a painter doing Goth fantasy nudes of herself and lots more.
