It's on!

Rock Paper Scissors and a host of local bike organizations are kicking off a new project for spring 2011 called Oakland Art ride - OAR - that takes riders around town to see art work and crafts from local artisans. Here's the sked for the first one on May 7:

Will be selling “Pimp Biker” shirts and donating the proceeds to the Japan Relief fund.
They also are running a raffle for several prizes including this Maya Cycle bicycle trailer.

First gathering Saturday, May 7th at noon

Oakland Art Ride is a collective of arts-focused communities that collaborate to produce art, craft, performance, food and more in neighborhoods across Oakland. OAR facilitates community building by encouraging artists to come together to sell, make and show the things they do. OAR organizes a bike tour once a month (also called OAR) to visit established and pop-up arts venues throughout Oakland.

A bike tour will be led by East Bay Bike Party from noon to dark on May 7. Tour begins at Rock Paper Scissors Collective, 2278 Telegraph Ave., Oakland. The communities currently involved are:

7 p.m. to midnight     "Elfmädchen," a film by Mirka Morales

Mirka Morales’s "Elfmädchen" is an abstract portrait of a narcoleptic girl who sleeps and dreams too much. It’s set amongst the urban decay of Soma, San Francisco. One night a magical dream casts a hypnotic spell, and her dreams become weirder, more lucid, flowing in and out of reality, each dream study with its own feel, from tropical to wacky to ominous and to childlike. The short film features live action and stop-motion animation and is shot in 16mm color film. It stars Rachel Birdsong, the Lady Nigel Butterfly and Ghis Glittoree. Running time is 16:30 minutes.
