Partners & Sponsors

Oakland Local is a project of The Center for Media Change, a 501c3. Founded in October 2009, we are a non-profit news and community site for Oakland, focused on providing community news and discussion as a way to deepen civic engagement and make people aware of great work being done in Oakland to address issues and problems we have.

Our seed funding came  from a New Voices grant awarded by J-Lab at American University, with funds provided by The Knight Foundation. We are the recipient of funding from The Harnisch Foundation, The California Endowment, The G.W. Williams Center for Independent Journalism, and The Renaissance Journalism Center.

The City of Oakland marketing group has partnered with Oakland Local on a year-round program to promote and support community events that make Oakland a great place to live, work and visit, and local businesses

If you would like to partner with us and blog or include your community news on our site, please get in touch with Susan Mernit (susan at oaklandlocal dot com) or Debi Mason (debimason1950@oaklandlocal.com)
