Bethanie Hines is an Oakland based portrait photographer and emerging photojournalist who is passionate about capturing the textural beauty of humanity. Her photographs of cultural events, family life, friends and on the street observations offer a nuanced, intimate view of everyday life.

"My photography is an out-growth of my interest in movement, emotion and healing" Hines says. "Capturing moments, whether they're intense or sexy, mysterious or ethereal, joyful or evocative, is what I do."

Hines' next exhibition will be "Wearing Spirit: Aesthetically Personifying the Feminine in African Sacred Traditions Exhibition" at The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) In New York city from March 11.

You can also see her work in Oakland as part of the "For Colored Girls Only, A Celebration of all Women" exhibition currently showing at the Joyce Gordon Gallery in downtown Oakland. The show runs through the end of March.
