What news do you care most about? Join us to underwrite diverse, non-profit, coverage of news & community issues in Oakland, CA–without your contributions we won’t have the funding to report on the news.
Oakland Local is a project of the Center for Media Change, a 501c3. We rely on individual donations, grants, ads and marketing partnerships to fuel our coverage of local news and issues, so please give now!
We are especially looking to fund reporting coverage for 2014 of:
- Education: We’re writing about Oakland youth and their schools
- Police and public safety, especially relating to police treatment of youth: What are the real stories of police accountability?
- City hall and city issues, Support development for a city hall & election beat
- Community Voices: Fund a community editorial intern to help with outreach and support: Support an outreach and training person to help community contributors
*Donations support salaries for editors, interns, and reporters, many of whom are women and young people, all of whom live in Oakland. No funding goes to office overhead–your donation directly supports coverage of our community.
*Donors are eligible for incentive prizes–if you give now, you will be eligible to select awards from our Donor list-including t-shirts, post-cards, tickets, and gift certificates for food, services, and enteertainment.
