International Women's Day Feast, Facts and Festival

Join us for a day of celebration and solidarity with women around the world celebrating womanhood.


We have a full day of festivities planned for you. Whether you want to march on the streets with drums and banners, discuss what you are passionate about in small groups, enjoy the speakers and performances with food and drinks or dance your afternoon away, you don't want to miss this. Check
out the incredible lineup of performers, below!There are hundreds of International Women's Day events happening all over the world.

DETAILS:

11 - 1 PM: DRUMMING CIRCLE & PARADE (From Diamond Park to Fruitvale Presbyterian Church)

11 am : Gather & Drumming Circle at Dimond Park on Fruitvale Ave in Oakland, just in front of the tennis courts (on Fruitvale slightly above Damuth St). Bring your drums, your musical instruments, your noise makers. Bring banners, signs with what IWD means to you!

Noon:  we will parade through the Dimond District to Coolidge and MacArthur and end up at the Festival venue, Fruitvale Presbyterian Church Community Hall, 2735 MacArthur Blvd, Oakland.

1 - 5 PM: FESTIVAL (Fruitvale Presbyterian Church Community Hall, 2735 MacArthur Blvd, Oakland)

1:00 - 2:00 pm: Gather for the “Feast and Facts”, choose from a scrumptious mostly organic buffet and find a CIRCLE OF INTEREST to join. Each circle will center on such topics as 'WOMEN ARTISTS', 'SOUL & SPIRIT WOMEN', 'WOMEN ACTIVISTS', 'WOMEN TRAVELERS', 'WOMEN & WORDS' etc. (Let us know if you would like to lead a circle.)

2:00 - 4:00 pm: PERFORMANCES (music, dance, spoken word, comedy etc.) by Bay Area Women Community artists. Some of the well loved names are
o Comedy by Terry Baum
o Tap Dancing by Dolores Helman
o Music by Karen Soo Hoo
o Flamenco by Beverly Christie
o Multimedia Chant Performance by Jennifer Halt
o And many more! (some surprises in place!)

4:00 - 5:00 pm: Tea Dance will conclude the day’s festivities! There will be dance performances, lesson by Zoe Balfour & dancing to music by DJ. Luna.
