Vocalist Lorin Benedict will be accompanied by a quartet (unnamed as of yet) of bay area jazz improvisors who have each been playing for many years, but only recently in this combination. Standards will be played, though often in non-standard ways. One of the least standard aspects is that one of the "horns" is a vocalist who engages in wordless improvisation. Another notable feature is that it is a bare-bones ensemble: drums, sometimes not even a bass, and soloists all weaving around each other with their lines. Admission is $10.
DivinityVoice is a new vocal arts space located in the Dimond District of Oakland, founded by jazz-soul vocalist Valerie Troutt. Volunteers for working the box office and the street team/PR are welcome. For more information, please call the phone number below.
