The California Prostitutes Education Project (CAL-PEP), its board members, staff and community supporters will celebrate 30 years of providing HIV/AIDS prevention and education services in the Bay Area to those at highest risk–often underserved and difficult to reach. The anniversary celebration will occur Friday, December 5th, 2014, 6:00pm, at Metropolitan Golf Links, 10051 Doolittle Drive in Oakland.

In 1984, organizers reflect that it was unknown how the disproportionate rate of HIV/AIDS would affect local communities. As of 2011, African Americans make up nearly 12% of Alameda County residents, yet account for 42% of newly diagnosed HIV cases. CAL-PEP strives to address this serious issue by using client-centered and culturally appropriate strategies in HIV/AIDS prevention and education services, explained Gloria Lockett, CAL-PEP’s Executive Director.
