I'll admit I'm been complacent about who I vote for City Council in the past. Recently, the council's answer to Oaklands budget issues was tax the residential property owners AGAIN. $360/parcel. Well they got my attention!
Does anyone know who voted for and against this? Does anyone know who proposed actual solutions besides tax the homeowner?
My district's council member made news when she had a fight with Jean Quan over a parking space and requested opinions from the city attorney's office on who gets the coveted parking space. This, too, got my attention.
Complacency no more. Thank you for any links you can provide to help me make an informed decision this time around

I think you are hitting the nail on the head.
all these districts and seats nobody knows anything about.
On election day the Democrats will hang a voting guide on every doorknob in the city.
And the status quo becomes very hard to change one more time.

I usually read the East Bay Express around election time. They have good local coverage with facts and analysis.
Where did first commenter ( can't read her name with all the graphics) get the $360/ household parcel tax? It was around $80/household.
As for parking space, are you talking about the time when the Mayor's car was towed? Because she parked in the mayor's space when she was only Mayor-elected. I think these people need to get a life before wasting City Attorney's, towing staff's time and tax payer's money. A phone call to the Mayor to move her car would have been sufficient.

Be advised..The mayor and Council members aren't the only offices you should be concerned about. How about the BART Board of Directors. The race between incumbent Carole Ward Allen and Robert Raburn. Carole doesn't impress me. She is a politico with politicians backing her. Robert Raburn is a transportation guy, more qualified to do the job!
Please vote in November. Citizens that don't vote have no right to complain!
