July 15--Join us at a Friday performance of Ise Lyfe's 'Pistols and Prayers' in Oakland 6 PM

Ise Lyfe

Ise Lyfe

We've always been big fans of Lyfe - ever since his turn on Def Poetry Jam a few years ago - but having Lyfe doing five weeks of shows right here in Oakland is about as good as it gets, even in the rich mix of Oakland's vibrant arts scene.

In fact, we're so excited about this show, we'd like to invite friends and fans of Oakland Local-and Ise--to come down to this Friday's show so we can see it all together at 6 PM on Friday, July 15.

Lyfe's new show is "Pistols and Prayers," a play based on his book that brings together spoken word, African-American folk spirituals, classical music, hip hop and theatre. This piece sold out the Berkeley Repertory Theater during its premier in 2009 - and it's been getting great reviews right here in Oakland as well.

"Pistols and Prayers' runs through Sunday, July 17, at 408 14th St. in downtown Oakland. The performance schedule includes two shows on Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.

General admission tickets are $15, $10 for the youth, and available on the web at Airbornetickets.com, by phone at (510) 986-1900 or at the venue door.
