Mayor Quan's Newsletter: Summer Jobs for Youth

What are the options for youth this sumer? Here's what Mayor Quan has to say:

The Mayor's Summer Job Program was a victim of the Congressional Budget compromise that almost closed down the federal government.  That means funding for about 400 summer jobs was cut.  Help us help our youth this summer learn about the world of work and stay safe.  This year, we are looking to train and place over 700 youth into employment this summer.

To meet this goal, we are looking to the private sector to create over 200 jobs. To support the MSJP and hire a youth for summer 2011, please click here and complete the job order formYouth can also help to create a job with a contribution. Non-profits and neighborhood businesses need temporary employees and cannot afford to pay for the additional support. Make a tax-deductible contribution of $500, $1,000, $1,500, $2,000 or $2,500 to support local youth and non-profit agencies. To make or pledge a donation please contact the Oakland Workforce Investment Board at (510)238-6457 or btoommaly@oaklandnet.com.
