This community bike shop from Cycles of Change, works to enable East Bay flatlands communities to use bicycles as a healthy, low-cost, efficient, safe form of primary transportation.  The goal of the Bikery is to make bicycling assessable and to get people out there on bikes to make the air, road, and quality of life better for all.

The Bikery has a Earn-A-Program where youths spend some hours working on a bike, getting experience on maintenance, repair and on the shop get to earn a bike for themselves.  They also work alongside with students to help educate and improve the atmosphere. They get donated bikes of all conditions and they are sorted according to see which program they should go in. The Bikery is starting up a new program for a weekly ride for high school girls schedule to begin at the end of July.

About Jackie Ho

Jackie Ho, a senior at San Francisco State University studying Health Education with a minor in Special Education, has been living in Oakland his whole life. Before working with Oakland Local Jackie felt that there was nothing to do in Oakland. After being exposed to the rich culture and history, he was intrigued by the lively atmosphere that is Oakland. With this thriving city, he feels like much good can be done here. While Jackie is searching for what he wants to do in life, he not only enjoys the occasional chances to do something in his community, he is open to working with people wherever they may be. Empowering others is what he aims in life and tries his best at making people around him feel happy and welcomed.

Biking activity isn’t just a matter of personal choice but certainly a great activity for the youth that spreads awareness and also helps them get associated with meaningful causes.
