Bill Duke and Chann Berry are two filmmakers who believe that we need to address the issue of complexion prejudice and they are producing a powerful documentary called "Dark Girls" to highlight some of the pain that women of color, particularly darker-skinned women, confront regularly.
The film features interviews with women of color and also includes a moving scene of a young girl who thinks that beauty and intelligence are associated with light skin and ugliness and dumbness are associated with dark skin. How does a little girl make these connections and how do we help her unlearn them?
"Dark Girls" is scheduled to be premiered at the 2011 Nashville Film Festival this October, but the independent filmmakers need to raise $250,000 before they can complete this film.(Click on the link for the video-embedding isn't working).
