Recently, in Oakland and throughout this country, there have been many discussions about the merits of nonviolence. However, there are a lot of misunderstandings about what people mean by the term “nonviolence.”

It is much more than simply “not being violent.” It is an active, aggressive force for personal and social change.

Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice hopes to change this when, in collaboration with the Positive Peace Warrior Network and the East Bay Nonviolent Action Network, it hosts "Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation - a Two-Day Introductory Workshop" for the community.

During this workshop, participants will study the nature of human conflict, the roots of violence, the principles of nonviolence and the “six steps of Kingian Nonviolence,” which will discuss the role of direct action, education, negotiation and other steps critical in movement building.

Workshop trainers:

  1. Kazu Haga, Level II Kingian Nonviolence Trainer, Program Director of the Peace Development Fund and co-founder of CURYJ
  2. Lori LeChien Level II Kingian Nonviolence Trainer, Paulo Freire Freedom School
