Alameda County Registrar of Voters Dave Macdonald said today that ballot counting for the City of Oakland elections will not be completed by this afternoon, as previously indicated.

“We still have a relatively small number of provisional ballots that are taking a little longer to process than expected,’’ he said.

As voters cast their ballots today, Larry Lionel Young, Jr. hopes for a game changer. A 30-year-old African American and Oakland native, Young is the youngest candidate for mayor of Oakland and hopes to be the one to relieve Ron Dellums. It was the city's current mayor, in fact, who inspired him to run.

Above his campaign office at Revolution Cafe, the BART roars like a ghost with an axe to grind. The noise is almost enough to deafen the patrons at Revolution Cafe, owned by Oakland mayoral candidate Arnie Fields. From the storefront that doubles as his campaign office, he can see the tracks loom over Seventh Street.
