Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and Police Chief Anthony Batts have set a date for a city-wide community summit on public safety.

The summit will be held Oct. 15 and is part of a broad, comprehensive strategy to combat a sharp uptick in serious crimes, including murder and gun shootings.
