The East Bay Bicycle Coalition and Walk Oakland Bike Oakland recently gathered to celebrate 2011’s bicycling victories, including 18 miles of new or improved bikeways, 292 new bicycle parking racks and a Safe Routes to School grant that will fund a valet bicycle parking station near 19th Street BART.

Every first and third Tuesday, Oakland Local gives you top five to watch for the upcoming City Council meeting. However, Oakland has far more meetings than that.

Every second and fourth Tuesday, the city's public agencies participate in a bi-weekly marathon of discussion in the first floor of City Hall.

Bike-Go-Round is setting out to spread the self-propelled mantra, not in Rockridge or Claremont, but in East and West Oakland, favorite targets of the fast food industry, where obesity and cars meet at large intersections lacking bike lanes and bike-friendly establishments.

It's great when a local organization gets national recognition for its hard work.  It's even more exciting when it's an organization doing hard work for causes you really believe in, like promoting a more sustainable Oakland.  Walk Oakland Bike Oakland (WOBO) was among 7 organizations that received this year's Advocacy Award from the Alliance for Biking and Walking.
