The Oakland City Council on Tuesday appointed Barbara Parker as City Attorney, forgoing the opportunity to have a citywide election to fill the spot.

Parker won the appointment with a 5-3 vote, with the support of City Councilmembers Nancy Nadel, Rebecca Kaplan, Larry Reid, Libby Schaaf and Pat Kernighan. Desley Brooks, Ignacio De La Fuente and Jane Brunner voted against Parker.

This morning, I finally made it down to Cana - our wonderful new café and restaurant on Lake Park Avenue near Lakeshore - for a café con leche. Unfortunately, they had just run out of that sweet mild drink (sorta like me, eh?), but I still enjoyed what I had at an outside table on our second dry and summery day.

The Oakland Public Ethics Commission announced Wednesday that it will consider initiating an investigation into whether campaign contributions to Oakland City Council members wrongly influenced a recommendation to award a City Hall contract to a local security firm.
