On Tuesday night, Oakland City Council held a progress report session, an emotional public forum, and a discussion about the future of Measure Y.  It was a chance for the public to hear and speak about what Measure Y has accomplished and what it has meant to the community .

The image of a john, "someone looking to pay for sex," often evokes the idea of a man in a car, trolling a street at night in a gritty neighborhood. But what most people don't realize is that johns are often just another face in the crowd.

One evening in early February, after a San Francisco panel on human trafficking in the Koret auditorium of the city's main library, an unnamed man confessed his story, disclosing his past to people who likely were strangers...

Oakland's Police department is putting those two new communications officers they hired to work; the first issue of the OPD Insider, a new newsletter meant to tell you everything the OPD wants to share with neighborhood and press, was just released. (See it, below). I think Police Chief Batts is doing a good job, but this chipper newsletter filled with sports game schedules made me roll my eyes a little bit. Okay the mission is to share positive stories and resource tips, but maybe the next issue will be a little less bland (maybe citizens will be able to contribute about positive encounters with their local police?). The team putting this issue together were Kasi D'Aloisio, Cee Belue, Mary Guttormson, Bobby Hookfin, and Holly Joshi, with Editor Cynthia Perkins and they're to be commended for getting this off the ground! Congrats, all!
