Come out for a fabulous Friday evening! Tonight, Oakland’s own multi-racial, interfaith gospel choir, under the leadership of Artistic Director Terrance Kelly, performs traditional and contemporary gospel music and spirituals at the Cathederal. At this event, there will be additional singers from the parishes of the Diocese of Oakland joining OIGC.

A noted Italian composer living in the US, found reassurance amidst the chaos of contemporary Oakland when he discovered Peralta Hacienda, so he composed a piece about it.

Luciano Chessa's Come un'infanzia for guitar, violins, cello and viola, with theatrical elements, will fill the air and sizzle the stage at Peralta Hacienda Historical Park in Fruitvale on June 11, 3:30-4:30 pm, in a free concert for the community sponsored by the Clorox Foundation.

"I could have not written a piece that would not look, hopeful, at Fruitvale now. Half a meditation on history and half a gentle utopia, Come un'infanzia is a piece on Oakland's infancy, on my infancy, on infancy, period,"

The Summer Sounds concert series’ last performers for the month of July will feature a group called Blackberry Soup. The group will grace the Oakland City Center stage from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28.

The forth Summer Sounds concert will showcase an award winning band by the name of Zydeco Flames, which won the 2009 North Bay Music Award in the category of World/International music. Recognized as the West Coast’s premiere Zydeco band, the group regularly plays for packed houses.
