“The cell phone brought him justice,” Cephus Johnson, Oscar Grant’s uncle told me recently.  He was referring to the historic event in which caused a jury to convicted then-BART Officer Johannes Mehserle, 28, of murder of Oscar Grant.

100 Black Men of the Bay Area, Inc., ASA Educational Services and Frick Middle School in Oakland are combining their resources working together to educate and empower African American youth by sponsoring the 2nd annual MAN UP conference for black boys Saturday, July 24, 2010 from 9 - 5.

Journalism Innovations: The new business of the news business--a conference produced by Independent Arts and Media,  the Society of Professional Journalists-Northern California, The University of San Francisco, and the G.W. Williams Center for Independent Journalism, is happening this coming week on April 30 and May 1st.

The educational system is currently failing urban African American children and educators must commit themselves to implementing the most effective ways to teach and prepare them for success in a global environment  — that was the message speakers told at "Educating African Americans for the 21st Century - A call to action," a half-day conference held April 24 at Mills College.
