Okay, we were too busy to plan a big party (we'll do it later), but that doesn't mean we didn't notice--Oakland Local turned one year old this week.  Yep, 12 months ago, OL went live, thanks to support from a J-Lab New Voices grant and lots of incredibly hard work from more than a few people.

I'm honored to say that I've been invited to be part of an annual Stanford John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships program this coming week.  The topic of the event is “#Hashtagged: How Social Media are Revolutionizing the News" and the other speakers are from NPR, Google and Yahoo; we're going to be talking about the impact of social media on news, a subhect dear to my heart.

When I got home today, there was an email from the Google Employee Matching Gifts Program, based in Princeton, N.J. The email told me to log into the giving portal because there were people at Google who wanted to give us money - money Google would match.
