In an effort to teach kids the art of film making and to celebrate family-friendly films, the Bay Area International Children's Film Festival will kick off its fourth year this Saturda and Sunday, Jan. 28-29, with a full line-up of high-quality films from around the world.

Oaklavia invited Oaklanders to “come play in the streets” without cars on Sunday and come they did  - on bicycles and roller skates, in strollers and pedicabs. It was a great, sunny day to play in the streets.

The teacher's strike didn't have Oakland parents scrambling for child care options, but this summer certainly will. Oakland has consistently cut funding for programs that educate and care for children when public schools are closed. For parents who have not yet finalized plans for their kids, we've put together a short list of where you can start looking.

Oakland Based Urban Gardens (OBUGS) will hold a rummage sale Apr. 10, to benefit its community spring planting event. You'll find kitchenwares, working appliances and electronics, toys, CDs and DVDs, jewelry, clothing, books and crafting supplies.
