Hey, book lovers --  The Bookmark, the Friends of the Library bookstore at 721 Washington St. in old Oakland, is having its annual fall sale this week, hours 10:30-5:30 through the sale.  Most of the store's 17,000 books are priced at $6-$7 to start with, and there's a wide and eclectic assortment of books.

According to the latest "Oakland e-Port," the Oakland Public Library is now offering downloads of audiobooks and eBooks.

Since Aug. 25, user have been able to browse the library’s website, check out with a valid library card and download to PC, Mac and many mobile device eBooks and audio books.

To play the books, users need to install free software.

The Oakland Public Library has announced that unlike the rest of the city, which will be closed from Friday, July 2 to Monday, July 5, the library will be open during its regular hours from noon to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 2.

All branch libraries and Main Library will be open to the public on Friday and closed for the July 4 weekend, from Saturday, July 3, to Monday, July 5.

The Oakland Public Library will host "Bay Area Women of Mystery" this Saturday, May 15. Seven women mystery writers will discuss their craft at the main library's West Auditorium, 125 14th St., Oakland, from 2-4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
