Sheba Queen of the Night is an Oakland Burlesque performer whose first show with The Hubba Hubba Revue at The Uptown was last night. In performing “Space Bowie,” her act was a fantastic blend of space camp and vamp, and we wanted to better understand the appeal of burlesque for this particular Oakland local.

A well-done burlesque show is a guaranteed good time with its bawdy humor, raucous MCs and, most importantly, costumed performers tempting and teasing the audience with her, or his, strategically placed tassels.

Imagine a party to which everyone is not only invited, but truly welcomed. Any sex. Any age. Any race. Any sexual orientation. With all due respect (and really, a lot of respect is due), The Lexington Club in the Mission is not that party. Neither is Boy Bar in the Castro.
