Nothing brings people together quite like a sporting event.

Whether it is a game of hoops, a game of pigskin or the "old ball game," thousands of people regularly attend for the sports entertainment aspect. However, another important element of a sporting event is that it provides people with a "friendly atmosphere" and a feeling of belonging to a community.

Come out to an A's game - and a youth art show. The Joyce Gordon Youth Art Alliance are teaming up with the Oakland Athletics to present a Youth Art Exhibit Opening featuring the work of some of Oakland’s most talented student artists.

Tired of waiting on Major League Baseball to make a decision on the Oakland A’s and their future. San Jose Mayor Larry Reed has decided to take “measures” which could very well come back to haunt him.

It was reported today that Reed wants to push forward with putting a measure on the November ballot for the funding of a ballpark.

The Oakland A’s yesterday made a decision that could been seen as their first defensive move to ensure they continue playing in Oakland. The team exercised its one-year option to play at the Coliseum in 2011. They have two more one-year deals in their contract with the Oakland-Alameda County Authority, that if also exercise could keep the team here in the city until 2013.

 San Jose has long been rumored as the potential new home for the Oakland A's. Now it seems that there's opposition to the idea, which is coming from San Jose of all places. Last week SJ's city council approved an environmental impact report which would be one of the first steps to getting the A's to the South Bay.

The month of May proved to be historic for the Oakland A’s. On May 9th fans witnessed pitcher Dallas Braden’s perfect game. The accomplishment lead to Mayor Ron Dellums naming last Friday “ Dallas Braden Day” in Oakland.
