Until recent years, most Americans had grown inured to the proposition that automobiles would take more and more of our community real estate. Not only were broad highways considered necessary, they were even considered attractive and public funds were lavished on them.

After appearances at three popular events in early May, the Alcatraz Parklet was last seen on Wednesday, May 18 between 5:40 and 6 pm being driven away in a white Subaru wagon, license plate 4UEG667.

Where did the new parklet go? 

After a fun celebration of the new parklet created by Actual Cafe staff and lots of volunteers, the whole parklet was hauled away and is now missing in action.

Oaklavia invited Oaklanders to “come play in the streets” without cars on Sunday and come they did  - on bicycles and roller skates, in strollers and pedicabs. It was a great, sunny day to play in the streets.
