Turnip Dem' Beets!

It is great to see so many people in the streets from the teachers, to the unions, to the activist and Anarchists young and old. Gardens are sprouting up in public plazas and parks at the numerous Occupy Sites (including Oscar Grant Plaza in Oakland) and food is being shared freely.

As much of the country prepares to celebrate Columbus Day as "discovery" and commemorate the conquest as "progress," Phat Beets Produce and the North Oakland Farmers' Market invite the community to be a part of an alternative space to honor more than 500 years of cultural, spiritual and political resistance led by the world's indigenous peoples.

Phat Beets Produce, a local food justice collective, will be offering the Beet Box in North Oakland early January 2011. The Beet Box is a produce box put together by Phat Beets Produce in North Oakland. The box contains both organic and pesticide-free produce from our farmers’ markets and will be available for pick up on Saturdays and Sundays. Boxes will cost $24.
