On June 5, Grass Valley Elementary School is hosting Green Day - a day of environmental education for all ages. The celebration will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of our new school garden. The school is located at located at 4720 Dunkirk Ave.

One of the many reasons why I moved to Oakland from San Francisco - The land!

I wish I had met the co-owner of Back Yard Food Gardens last year, while I was still deciding what to do with my huge backyard. Perhaps it's not too late. I would love to have a self-sustaining home which includes growing my own organic foods.

When you see a rooftop bustling with activity, it’s usually because something is under construction. On this sunny Oakland roof, a group of young people working with soil and seedlings is also building something: food security, healthier communities, and a sustainable economy. They’re volunteers for Oakland-based food justice organization Planting Justice, founded earlier this year.
