In April 2010, the Oakland City Council - along with the cities of Berkeley and San Leandro - voted to study a specific route for a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system along International and Telegraph.

AC Transit’s announcement of its decision to outsource its call center to New England brings up the same question for
Oakland.


Oakland is forbidden by its charter from outsourcing anything except certain professional type services, and big construction projects.

The Oakland Running Festival is this weekend. There are still some spots open in all races. If you want to run, you can still register -- but not online. Stop by the Expo at the Oakland Marriott City Center Saturday 9am-6pm to register in person and get your packet. There is no registration or packet pick-up on Sunday.

Facing a budget crunch, earlier this year AC Transit proposed significant reductions in bus service -- especially reductions in route frequency and hours. For people who depend on public transit to get to work, school, or other important travel, such changes can cause considerable disruption.

On Nov. 18 the AC Transit Board of Directors started considering a Revised Service Adjustments Plan proposal. According to the Ride AC Transit blog, the revised plan "restores nearly half of the service hours originally proposed to be cut." If you want to make an official comment on this proposal, you must do so by 5pm on Dec. 2.
