AC Transit’s announcement of its decision to outsource its call center to New England brings up the same question for Oakland.  Oakland is forbidden by its charter from outsourcing anything except certain professional type services and big construction projects.

Back in April we first reported on the budget crisis in Oakland's General Fund. This Thursday, June 24, the Council will need to decide what measures will be put up to a vote at the November ballot in an attempt to close the $32 million budget gap.

Yesterday, I attended the long and crowded MTC meeting addressing the funding of the Oakland Airport Connector (at one point I was literally edged out of the main auditorium onto the outside patio). I reported on it.  I wanted to make a few personal comments here.
