California's Black, Native American, & Mexican Governor is coming to Peralta Hacienda. Pio Pico was governor of Mexican CA before the US takeover in 1848. Carlos Salomon will introduce visitors to Pico through a fun, engaging presentation. Wine and tamales following the talk!

The archetype of the righteous outlaw has a universal appeal. Nowhere probably identifies better with this idea than the proudly individualistic Bay Area, and no character represents it better than the legendary Zorro.

 

On Dec. 2, Peralta Hacienda will be transformed into the California of Zorro's day, celebrating Friends of Peralta Hacienda Historical Park’s 25th anniversary.

If you're into buying local food, why not pair it with local wine? The East Bay has a burgeoning winemaking scene.

On July 31, dozens of winemakers and restauranteurs from Oakland, Alameda, and Berkeley joined hundreds of wine lovers from both sides of the Bay for the fifth annual Urban Wine Xperience. This event filled the former Barnes & Noble location at Jack London Square with good music, food, wine, and fun.

Last Friday evening, it took a little bit of effort to navigate to Irish Monkey Cellars -- but I'm glad I went. The third Friday of every month, this small Oakland winery hosts "Wine Soaked Fridays" -- a casual event featuring locally produced wine and local musicians.

"It's basically just a chance to share the common enjoyment of hanging out," says owner/winemaker Bob Lynch. "People meet friends here."
