The East Bay Bicycle Coalition and Walk Oakland Bike Oakland recently gathered to celebrate 2011’s bicycling victories, including 18 miles of new or improved bikeways, 292 new bicycle parking racks and a Safe Routes to School grant that will fund a valet bicycle parking station near 19th Street BART.

The San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR), a local think tank focused on sustainable growth, has just released a 40-page report that outlines the Bay Area's biggest climate risks and lays out a road map for how communities can start preparing.

On May 6, officials from Oakland's sustainability office presented their draft Energy and Climate Action Plan during two sessions held at the state office buildings in downtown Oakland. About 40 people reportedly attended the first worksop (in the afternoon), while fewer than 20 attended the evening workshop that I went to.

On Earth Day, April 22, the City of Oakland's Sustainability Office release its draft Energy and Climate Action Plan, an ambitious effort to reduce Oakland's greenhouse gas emissions by 36% below 2005 levels in the next 10 years.
