The Bay Bridge connects Oakland to San Francisco, but when you ask which city is more of a tourist attraction. The unanimous answer will be San Francisco, and its completely understandable why people would say that. San Francisco has a lot more to offer tourist and it’s residents.

Oakland has now reached 43 homicides of the year. Last night a man was stabbed and killed in the Fruitvale District. He was later identified by Oakland Police as Juan Mendoza-Velasquez, a Guatemalan father of four.

According to the report in the Oakland Tribune, the incident occurred at about 6p.m.

Two weeks ago, the East Bay Express’ Bob Gammon wrote an excellent article revealing some odd financial mingling between the campaign of former State Senate leader Don Perata for mayor of Oakland with Mr. Perata’s project to put an initiative on the statewide California ballot taxing cigarettes to benefit cancer research (“The Cancer In The Oakland Mayor’s Race” February 10, 2010).

While the city of San Jose awaits more money to invest in a ballpark for the Oakland A’s. Oakland is making efforts this week to prevent that from happening. Mayor Ron Dellums and City Council President will speak today at a press conference organized by the non-profit group “Let’s Go Oakland”. The conference will take place at City Hall and scheduled to begin at 11am.

San Jose continues to move forward with its efforts to acquire the Oakland A’s. The city is awaiting a vote this week to approve $4.6 million dollars that would go towards the construction of a ballpark which could be the new home of the A’s once Major League Baseball committee decides whether owner Lew Wolff should move the team.

When you enter the downtown Oakland office of Wardrobe for Opportunity, you feel you're walking into an actual boutique. The lobby invites you into a clothing store atmosphere. The before and after pictures of successful program participants, which hang on the walls, make you instantly feel inspired. Along with racks filled with work attire for women and men, the back of the boutique has long mirrors on either side and allows participants to embrace the transformation they see right before their eyes.
