In an effort to teach kids the art of film making and to celebrate family-friendly films, the Bay Area International Children's Film Festival will kick off its fourth year this Saturda and Sunday, Jan. 28-29, with a full line-up of high-quality films from around the world.

Bill Duke and Chann Berry are two filmmakers who believe that we need to address the issue of complexion prejudice and they are producing a powerful documentary called "Dark Girls" to highlight some of the pain that women of color, particularly darker-skinned women, confront regularly.

Kids have been killing themselves over the issue of their sexuality for years ... way before the headlines acknowledged this reality as a “trend.” Even knowing this, I see their little faces in the news and it makes me so sad.
