Matéo Fowler had never seen the Peralta House Museum before he started training as a Community Tour Leader, although he’s lived near the park for most of his life. The training resonated with Matéo’s love of history, and his many unanswered questions.

A full moon will rise and fall over the Oakland Museum of California just in time for Dia de los Muertos. The Seventeenth Annual Community Celebration for Days of the Dead runs from noon to 4:30 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 23.

In keeping with the holiday's Meso-American origins, ofrendas or altars decorated with obsidian and food offerings will line the museum's halls. Incense smoke and performers will dance for the departed souls. Marigolds, thought to coax the dead with their scent, will adorn the day in celebration of life.
