Contrary to what you may have heard, “SPAGGIA” is not actually an Italian pastry. It’s an acronym standing for San Pablo Avenue Golden Gate Improvement Association. They’re still at least pastry-fun, though, and to prove it, they’re holding the first-ever San Pablo Stroll on Saturday, June 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The plan is to stroll along San Pablo Avenue and around the Golden Gate District. A map is available here. The Stroll features visits to local merchants, neighborhood deals and discounts, “live music, food and fun all day and night,” and the opportunity to meet neighbors. After all, if you knew them, you would probably like them. You have so much in common.

Also on hand and just waiting to be met will be new City Councilmember Dan Kalb and some of his staff. Unlike many of the politicians in this writer’s native Massachusetts, he totally looks like he can handle strolling around the neighborhood without a defibrillator, which of course will leave his staff available to have some fun, too.

Featured merchants — some new, and some longtime neighborhood favorites — include:

The Grease Diner Art Galleria Bodega
The Pallet Space
Cafe Tribe / کافه رستوران قبیله
Victory Burger
Actual Cafe
A Verb for Keeping Warm
James and The Giant Cupcake
PLACE for Sustainable Living
Pepples Donuts
Red Door Pizza
Crossroads Cafe
Phat Beets Produce & Farmers’ Market

A raffle with lots of exciting prizes, mostly donated from these businesses and others in the neighborhood, will hold its drawing at 2 p.m. at Actual Cafe.

So go on, get some SPAGGIA on your shoes. It feels good.
