Njena Reddd Foxx
performing this Friday
at Black Weirdo Oakland

[Stas]:  Black Weirdo was a term given to us by people who didn’t understand our way of living, we took the words and flipped them into meaning something Hip and Cool.

[Cat]:  It is a people and a place and a feeling. A sweet intentional opportunity to connect. An embracing of self and within that learning others.

[MC]:  What was the inspiration behind the production of the Black Weirdo Party?

[Stas]:  We didn’t have a place where we could go to hear music that we liked. We also saw the need for a safe place for LGBTQ and Allies to come together.  By combining those two ideas we came up with the Black Weirdo Party.  We also dreamed of having a Studio 54-like vibe where folks could completely and literally cut all the rugs.

Gizzle Mcfly 2

[MC]:  At your Black Weirdo Party you highlight many talented up and coming and established artists why do you feel this important?

[Stas]:  We highlight music that we enjoy whether it’s someone well known or someone unknown because we feel that everyone should get a

chance to shine. We wouldn’t be the artists who are now without someone giving us a chance.

[Cat]:  It’s important to share what you love and who you support.

[MC]:  Can you give us a little information about some of the artists performing in Oakland at Black Weirdo and tell us why you chose to showcase them?

Gifted Gab 1

Gifted Gab
performing this Friday at Black Weirdo

[Stas]:  Gizzle McFly and I grew up in the same neighborhood, we went to middle school and high school together. He’s hilarious and a huge lover of good music. You can hear both of those qualities in the music that he makes.

[Cat]:  Gifted Gab, Gabby, has an great personality and vibe. She’s quite confident with her flows. Steady storytelling. And Njena is freaking fabulous. We’ve played with her twice now and she’s keeps me on my toes.

We want to expose these folks to our community and share their skills.

[MC]:   This is your second time in Oakland.  We are excited to have you back.  Please tell us what makes you excited about returning to Oakland.

Jocquese Whitfield
performing Friday at Black Weirdo

[Stas]:  The vibe in Oakland is unmatched. The way that folks are so easy-going and friendly is something that you don’t get from many places. We always feel at home when we are there.

[Cat]:  Oakland is so chill. It’s always a special experience. We are excited to party and bring in this good weather!

“Stand Up Sit Down” is a live stand-up comedy and sit-down interview show hosted by socio-political comedians, Karinda Dobbins and Dhaya Lakshminarayanan. Imagine if renegade comedians locked Wolf Blitzer in a broom closet and then ran CNN’s “Situation Room.” You would have the Stand Up Sit Down” show. Hosts Dobbins and Lakshminarayanan will join fellow comics on stage to cover weighty topics with a light touch. The show will culminate in a humorous discussion between the hosts and a subversive interview guest, who might be an activist, cook, entrepreneur, artist, politician, professor, or superhero.

The first show, April 11th, will feature guest Stand Up Comedians Johan Miranda and Aundre the Wonderwoman. The special Sit Down guest will be Elaine Brown. Elaine Brown is an American prison activist, writer, singer, and former Black Panther Party chairman who is based in Oakland, California. Brown briefly ran for the Green Party presidential nomination in 2008.
