There’s really never a night in Oakland where there isn’t good music around the city, but this Friday the 27th is especially fantastic.

Not only is Noise Pop bringing two exceptional shows to town, both with the local indie heavy show at the Fox Theater of Geographer, K.Flay, Empires, and Bells Atlas, as well as hip hop coming from Chicago with Mick Jenkins standing out as a hip hop artist that’s on his lyrical game.

For fans of heavier rock music there’s Oakland’s Violence Creeps, Baus, and Universe People at Eli’s Mile High. Golden Age, Coco Peila, Q Dot, and J’Maal will fill the Legionnaire Saloon with banging local hip hop. For something more intimate check out Brooklyn’s rockin’ Nude Beach at 1-2-3-4 Go!

If funky is more your style, Yoshi’s is putting on a Superfly Tribute Show featuring James Early and The Superfly Band. Lastly, Madnoise with Shotwell and Andrew St. James are playing funk meets soul meets jazz meets folk at Awaken Café.

Lastly, you have probably heard about Noise Pop, but have you heard about Big Splash? Another musical festival happening over 10 days in Oakland and San Franciso and ending on the 27th. The last night features LA’s fabulous pysch-pop band, Golden Tropics, at LeQuiVive Gallery along with Religious Girls, Meth Dad, Maniacs, and Lucy to close out the festival.

So if it’s been a long week and you only want to go out one night this weekend, you should really consider seeing a show on Friday and then you have Saturday and Sunday nights to reconsider.
