Diane Abt:
Recent Work

Manna Gallery is pleased to present a collection of recent works by artist Diane Abt. This exhibition opens January 16, and continues until February 21. A reception for Diane will take place Third Thursday, January 15, from 6 to 8 pm, when she will be available to meet gallery visitors.
Abt’s artwork is rooted in nearly two decades of studying East Asian calligraphy and informed by her long experience as a journalist.
Living in Japan, especially studying brush writing, helped her discover the elegance of understatement, as well as the power of emptiness. The vibrant earthiness of her hometown, Chicago, taught her to search for complex texture beneath the surface. Her journalism career has also shaped her work. Story telling remains important to her, though her tools have changed.
For Abt, intuition is fundamental as well because that is the path to her subconscious, her heart, her truth. And it is that authenticity that provides he crucial link to the viewer.
